Swarovski Crystals Bring a Fairytale to Life

The latest version of the film Cinderella is special not only because of its marvelous set design, costumes and make-up, but also due to the shining jewelry used as actresses' accessories. The Walt Disney movie was released in March, 2015, with Lily James, Helena Bonham Carter and Cate Blanchett starring, and, undoubtedly, Swarovski has played an important role on the set of the film.

The worldwide renowned Austrian company operated in coordination with Sandy Powell, an award-winning British costume designer, in order to create fantastic costumes and jewelry for the film. Cinderella, the fairy godmother and the wicked stepmother's gowns were embellished with about 1.7 million Swarovski crystals. More than 150 tiaras and jewelry pieces were used to show all the charm and glamour of the well-known fairytale. The glass slippers, made of solid crystal, probably play a key role in the plot.

In the words of Sandy Powel, Cinderella is a real romantic fairytale, and Swarovski crystals are the main creative element which adds light, color and depth to the costumes. Working with this company has added a new level of enchantment, illuminating the characters and magically bringing them to life.

After such a productive cooperation Powell has recently introduced a jewelry collection created in partnership with Atelier Swarovski. This line called the Tremaine collection was inspired by the image of Lady Tremaine, Cinderella’s evil stepmother. The collection includes rings, earrings, cuffs and necklaces made of gold crystal and green emerald.

The Tremaine collection

Swarovski introduced its own fashion jewelry collection, inspired by the princess herself and the motifs of nature like delicate flowers and bright butterflies. The crystals used for this collection are ranging from hues of vintage rose to amethyst. Apart from that, Swarovski has also released a limited edition of crystal Cinderella and the glass slipper's figurines.
